Maynilad’s Plant for Life is a reforestation and afforestation program that aims to help stop the environmental degradation that is threatening the reliability and quality of water. Since the start of the program in 2007, 436,000 saplings have already been planted in Bulacan, Muntinlupa, and the Manila Bay Coastline – where mangroves now grow. Mangroves absorb up to five times the amount of carbon into the soil compared to other forest trees, which is especially needed in the highly-polluted metro.
In line with this, we are encouraging everyone to join simply through shopping! For every P1,500 worth of purchase, one mangrove tree will be planted to curb – and hopefully stop – pollution in the city. Who knew shopping could have such a great effect on the environment, eh?
