10 Men's Hair Myths You Need To Ignore

It's bonkers to think that in this digital and scientific age, we still believe in myths surrounding our hair. From styling to washing, believing in unproven claims can only lead to more damage.

So, here are 10 myths about your locks that should start ignoring now.

Plucking gray hair makes more of them grow.
This is probably one of the most popular and ridiculous myths about hair. Yes, it's possible for the white hair you've plucked to grow back - if you weren't able to get it at the root - but not in multiples. And besides, this early gray hair growth may mean more will come in the future so plucking would become pointless, really. Instead, stop the habit and touch up with hair dye or accept this beautiful stage of aging.

Wearing hats make you go bald.
Although this is impossible to happen without you passing out since it could only come true due to poor circulation in the head, wearing hats does have its drawbacks. The habit does not exactly cause hair loss but doing so every day can break and damage the hair due to continuous pressure onto the strands. It's advised to take it off every now and again and make sure it is not worn too tight.

Dandruff and dry scalp are the same.
Most of the time, dandruff is mistaken for dry scalp because of similar symptoms. However, the two conditions aren't the same. Dandruff is caused by a yeast imbalance in the skin that trigger an inflammatory response. And no, it can't be alleviated by drinking more water. Instead, try a gentle antifungal shampoo dedicated to banishing its symptoms and calming the scalp.

Hair has to be shampooed everyday to keep it cleaned.
This may sound crazy, but shampooing your hair everyday could actually do more harm than good. It's advised that people only use shampoo if they feel that their hair is already starting to get greasy, as hair produces oil at different rates. You can also use dry shampoo as alternative for absorbing oil however, overuse may lead to scalp conditions or hair loss.

Frequent haircut makes hair grow faster.
Get rid of this belief because there is no truth to it whatsoever. Hair is a protein fiber that can't be stimulated by anything. And that includes cutting. For the most part, hair growth is determined by your genes, lifestyle, and even diet.

A cheap haircut is as good as an expensive one.
Consider your haircut as an investment; paying a good amount would give you an amazing result. That's because barbers who do charge more are likely to have spent as much on education, tools, and everything that goes into an amazing cut. Also, frequent trips to the barber may result to your neck and ears being clogged by hair or chemicals, as you should have these tidied up professionally.

A sudsy wash is more effective.
Having more suds when washing your hair hasn't been proven to be more effective. If anything, shampoos that tend to be too foamy are probably full of sulfates that could irritate and dry the scalp if used often. Instead, look for ingredients that help in retaining moisture and making your hair healthy overall.

You can change your hair through frequent styling.
No way of combing, blow-drying, or styling can permanently change the type or shape of your hair, nor the direction of how your hair grows. Products like pomades and hair sprays help in molding the hair but only temporarily and no matter how often you use them, they won't be able to alter your hair for good.

Your  mother is the reason you're balding.
A balding head or receding hairline is caused you a number of genes you inherit from both parents and not just your mother. There are eother things that cause this too, like stress, medication, or sensitivity. If these make you worry, visit a doctor for possible medications.

Hair grows faster in the sun.
Ok, this one has A LITTLE truth to it. Because the sun's Vitamin D does have an effect on hair growth. However, don't expect such a dramatic change. Moreover, UV rays can damage the hair cuticles that could result to dryness. So, stop frolicking under the sun especially if you don't have any sun protection for your hair!
